What after builders cleaning is
After builders cleaning, also called post-construction or post-renovation cleaning, removes the dust, debris and residue left behind when building work finishes. That covers plaster and brick dust on every surface, paint splashes, adhesive and silicone smears, packaging, and the fine dust that settles inside cupboards, vents and window frames.
It is a specialist job because builders dust is much finer than household dust and spreads through the whole property. The UK data has 1,786 after builders jobs, which makes it a smaller service than end of tenancy or deep cleaning, but one with larger bookings.
How much does after builders cleaning cost in the UK?
After builders cleaning starts from £200, fixed and confirmed on the quote. The price depends on the size of the property, how much dust and residue there is and which rooms were worked on. Because every site is different, a photo or a short description helps a quote. See the prices page.
Across 900 after builders cleaning jobs since 2024 the median booking value was £292. Half of bookings came in between £224 and £396. This is the total for the whole booking, which often bundles several services, so it is higher than the starting price of a single item.
This median is higher than for end of tenancy cleaning (£260) and deep cleaning (£278), which fits with the extra work involved after building work.
Median booking values include any extras added to the booking. They come from one UK provider, not the whole UK market.
After builders cleaning across the UK
The table shows the areas with the most after builders cleaning jobs since 2024. Prices are set nationally, so differences in the median mostly reflect the mix of extras booked in each place, not a different rate.

| London | 356 | £290 |
| Birmingham | 27 | £264 |
| Edinburgh | 20 | £220 |
| Cambridge | 19 | £335 |
| Brighton | 16 | £230 |
| Redhill | 16 | £316 |
| Sheffield | 15 | £195 |
| Slough | 15 | £356 |

| Hemel Hempstead | 13 | £376 |
| Reading | 13 | £357 |
| Portsmouth | 13 | £175 |
Jobs by area
Across the 25 UK areas with enough jobs to compare, the median booking value runs from £175 in Portsmouth to £376 in Hemel Hempstead. London has the most jobs (356 since 2024). The areas include Scotland and Wales as well as England.
London accounts for 356 of the jobs shown since 2024, far more than any other area. Other areas have between 9 and 27 jobs each, so their medians are indicative only. See cleaning prices by city in the UK.
What is in a typical after builders clean
Each bar shows the share of after builders jobs that included the line.
Share of the 1,786 after builders jobs in the UK data that included each line. Bundled jobs count under every service they contain.
Living areas, bathrooms, interior windows, the kitchen and bedrooms each appear in about 70% of jobs. Exterior windows are added to 24% of jobs, with an average of 7.3 windows, more than in most other services. Carpets (17%) and appliances (19%) are less common. The scope is set out on the after builders cleaning page.
When UK customers book after builders cleaning
Building work does not follow the rental calendar, so the monthly pattern is flatter than for other services. These are the shares of jobs by month, using the full years 2024 and 2025.
July (10%) and February (9%) are the busiest months, and January (6%) is the quietest. The busiest ISO weeks across 2024 and 2025 were week 8 (mid February) with 26 jobs, week 51 (mid December) with 21 jobs, week 32 (early August) with 20 jobs and week 47 (mid November) with 19 jobs (ISO weeks run from week 1 in early January to week 52 or 53 in late December).
Busiest days of the week
Friday is the busiest day (22% of jobs), followed by Thursday (16%). Sunday is the quietest (8%). Most jobs start at 9am (45% of jobs), and 2pm is the second most common start (15%). See also busiest months for cleaning in the UK, busiest weeks to book cleaning and best day and time to book a cleaner.
Friday stands out strongly: 22% of jobs fall on a Friday, the highest weekday share of any service. One likely reason is that clean-ups are booked for the end of the working week. Because the sample is smaller, week-by-week figures are small and should be read with care.
Stages of a post-construction clean
- Rough clean while work finishes. Debris and packaging are removed so surfaces can be reached.
- Dust removal from the top down. Ceilings, light fittings, walls, shelves and sills come before floors.
- Detail work. Paint splashes, adhesive, silicone smears and marks on glass and tiles.
- Floors and final wipe. Floors are cleaned last so settling dust is not walked back over.
Heavy debris, rubble and waste removal are builder jobs and are not part of a clean. Ask the contractor to remove skips and large waste first.
Checklist before booking
- Confirm the builders have finished and removed tools, rubble and waste.
- Make sure water and electricity are on.
- Take photos of the worst areas to include with the request.
- Note paint, plaster or silicone residue that needs specific attention.
- Decide whether windows, carpets and appliances are included. Check the carpet cleaning guide and deep cleaning guide for related work.
Common mistakes
- Booking while trades are still on site, so the dust returns.
- Using a standard cleaning service for builders dust, which needs more time and different methods.
- Cleaning floors first. Dust falls and settles on them again.
- Not telling the team about newly fitted surfaces that can be scratched.
What this means for you
- Budget from £200, and expect the booking to cost more for a big renovation.
- Friday slots are the most in demand, so ask for a midweek day if you are flexible.
- Book once the building work is truly finished.
- Sending photos helps the quote.

Dust removal from all surfaces, paint and adhesive marks, interior windows, kitchen and bathrooms, and floors. Exterior windows are added to 24% of jobs.
When should I book it?
After building work has finished and tools and waste have been removed. Friday is the busiest day, so a midweek date may be easier.

How the numbers were calculated
Source: Hello Cleaners job records, 31,487 UK jobs, part of Hello Services Ltd.
The records cover jobs recorded between 2019 and 2026. This guide uses the 1,786 after builders jobs in that dataset. Prices and areas use jobs since 2024. Months use the full years 2024 and 2025. Days of the week and start times use all years. 2022 has almost no records and 2023 is partial, so no trends are compared across those years. 2026 is year to date.
The median is the middle value: half of bookings were below it and half above. It is the total of a whole booking, not a per-service price. The data comes from one UK provider and is not the whole UK market. See also Hello Cleaners in numbers, what customers book most and cleaning prices by city.
