The five busiest weeks of the year
Months are a blunt tool. Within a month some weeks are far busier than others. This chart counts UK jobs by ISO week of the year, using 2024 and 2025 together. Week 1 is the first week with a Thursday in January, and the dates shown are for 2025.
| Rank | ISO week | Dates in 2025 | Jobs in 2024 and 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 35 | 25 Aug to 31 Aug | 320 |
| 2 | 36 | 1 Sep to 7 Sep | 317 |
| 3 | 31 | 28 Jul to 3 Aug | 301 |
| 4 | 39 | 22 Sep to 28 Sep | 297 |
| 5 | 26 | 23 Jun to 29 Jun | 277 |
All five weeks fall between late June and late September. Week 35 (25 Aug to 31 Aug) is the single busiest, followed by week 36 (1 Sep to 7 Sep) and week 31 (28 Jul to 3 Aug). The gap between the busiest week and the fifth is small, so think of late August to late September as one long peak.
Why late August and September
The data shows when jobs happen, not why. The pattern fits a few familiar UK habits.
- End of tenancy. Move-out cleans bunch up around the end of August and the start of September, when many fixed term tenancies and student lets end.
- Back to school. Families clean before the new school year and the busier autumn routine.
- Late June. Week 26 appears in the top five for end of tenancy work, which fits tenancies that end at the close of the academic year or the end of June.
- End of the month. Tenancies often end on the last day of a month, so the last week of each month is busier than the first. See the day of month note below.
Busiest weeks by service
Each service has its own rhythm. This table lists the three busiest ISO weeks for each of the nine services, with the number of jobs in brackets.
| Service | Top 3 weeks (jobs) | Dates of the top week in 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| End of tenancy | 35 (168), 26 (155), 36 (155) | 25 Aug to 31 Aug |
| One-off deep clean | 31 (115), 32 (109), 51 (109) | 28 Jul to 3 Aug |
| Carpet and rug | 9 (143), 8 (134), 40 (132) | 24 Feb to 2 Mar |
| Oven | 39 (79), 44 (74), 37 (65) | 22 Sep to 28 Sep |
| Appliances | 39 (237), 35 (235), 36 (234) | 22 Sep to 28 Sep |
| After builders | 8 (26), 51 (21), 32 (20) | 17 Feb to 23 Feb |
| Sofa and upholstery | 36 (45), 46 (43), 38 (41) | 1 Sep to 7 Sep |
| Mattress | 37 (20), 38 (20), 33 (20) | 8 Sep to 14 Sep |
| Pressure washing | 13 (10), 15 (9), 22 (9) | 24 Mar to 30 Mar |
- End of tenancy: weeks 35, 26, 36, 39 and 31, which are late June and the end of summer.
- Deep cleaning: weeks 31, 32 and 51. Week 51 is the pre-Christmas clean, and the other two are the summer peak.
- Carpet and rug: weeks 9 and 8 (late February) as well as late summer.
- Ovens: weeks 39 and 44, late September and late October.
- Pressure washing: weeks 13, 15 and 22, in spring and early summer. The counts are small, so treat them as a guide.
Does the day of the month matter?
Yes, slightly. Jobs are spread fairly evenly across the month, with each day holding about 3% of jobs. The 28th and 29th are the busiest days at 3.9% each, and the 27th and 30th are close behind. The 31st is lowest at 2.3%, but not every month has one. The month-end bump fits tenancies that end at the end of the month, so if your tenancy ends between the 27th and the 30th, book earlier than you think you need to.
Treat this as a gentle tilt, not a wall. A job on the 15th is no harder to book than one on the 5th, and the month-end effect is far smaller than the seasonal one.
How to read the week numbers
ISO weeks run from Monday to Sunday and are numbered from 1. Because the calendar shifts each year, the same week number covers slightly different dates in different years. The dates in this article are for 2025. For 2026, week 35 runs from 24 to 30 August and week 36 from 31 August to 6 September.
That means the exact busiest dates move by a few days each year, but the shape does not change: the run from late June to late September is the one to plan around. If you are booking for a date in that window, treat it as a peak week whatever the week number says.
What counts as a job in these weeks
A job is counted in the week it took place. A booking that combines an end of tenancy clean with carpets and an oven is one job, counted once in the total and once under each of the three services in the service table. For that reason the service rows add up to more than the overall figure.
How to book around the busiest weeks
- Book the day you know your dates. Do not wait for the removals to be confirmed. Dates can be moved, but a full diary cannot be stretched.
- Be flexible by a day or two. A Thursday or Sunday is usually easier than a Friday in a peak week. See the best day and time to book a cleaner.
- Combine services. Carpets, an oven and the main clean in one visit need one slot, not three.
- Send your checklist early. A letting agent checklist avoids a second visit.
- Avoid last minute. In a peak week, same day and next day slots are the first to go.
The busiest months for cleaning in the UK article gives the wider picture, and the end of tenancy cleaning guide covers the checklist.
