The short answer: August and September

If you are wondering when cleaners are busiest in the UK, the data gives a clear answer. August and September are the peak, each with 10.4% of jobs. July follows at 9.5% and October at 9.3%. The quietest months are January (5.9%) and December (6.4%).

The four months from July to October hold 40% of a full year of work. August has about 1.8 times as many jobs as January. If you can choose your date, that gap matters, because it decides how easily you will find a slot.

Busiest month for each service

Not every service follows the same curve. End of tenancy cleaning is one of the most seasonal. Ovens peak later, in the autumn, and appliances peak in late summer. The table shows the two busiest months and the quietest month for each of the nine services.

  • End of tenancy: August (11.7%) and September (11.6%) are well above the rest. December is the quietest at 5.2%.
  • Deep cleaning is flatter. August leads at 10.1%, but no month drops below 6.3%.
  • Ovens peak in September (11.7%) and stay busy into November, while appliances peak a little earlier, in August (10.4%). A reasonable reading is that households clean the kitchen before the festive season.
  • Carpets have a small early peak in February and March (8.8% and 8.6%) as well as the summer rise.
  • Pressure washing is the opposite. Its busiest months are spring: April (11.4%), February and March (10.6% each). It is based on only 345 jobs, so treat it as a guide.
  • Mattress and sofa jobs lean towards the autumn, with September the busiest month for both.

Why these months are busy in the UK

The data shows when people book. It does not say why, so the reasons below are a reading of the pattern, not a finding.

  • Tenancy cycles. Many UK tenancies run for 12 months, and many lets start in the summer. That puts a lot of move-out cleans in July, August and September, which is the main reason end of tenancy work peaks then.
  • Students. Student lets often end in the summer and begin in September. Landlords and letting agents want properties cleaned between the two.
  • School holidays. Families with more time at home in the summer holidays often choose deep cleans and carpet cleans while the house is quiet.
  • Autumn resets. After summer, households tidy up before winter. Oven and sofa jobs rise from September to November.
  • Spring cleaning. The smaller lift in February and March for carpets and the spring rise in pressure washing fit the idea of a fresh start after winter.
  • Holiday months. December and January are quiet because many people travel and fewer tenancies change hands.

In both years the peak is in late summer. August and September were the two busiest months in 2024 (707 and 709 jobs). In 2025 September was highest at 540, with August at 533 and October close behind at 526. January was the lowest month in both years (405 and 304). Because the pattern repeats, it is a safe guide for planning. The fall from 2024 to 2025 should not be read as a market trend, because the data does not show what caused it.

When to book for the best availability

  • Peak months (July to October): book as early as you can. For a move-out clean, request your date as soon as you know your tenancy end date. Two to three weeks ahead is a sensible minimum, and earlier is better for a Friday or the end of a month.
  • Middle months (February to June, November): it is easier to get the day you want.
  • Quiet months (January and December): these are the easiest months to get a slot. Deep cleans, carpets and oven cleans are good jobs to book then.

Hello Cleaners has 72 active teams across the UK, each covering up to 25 miles from its base (35 miles around Brighton, Edinburgh and Lincoln). Availability in your area depends on the local team, so the best way to check is to ask for a quote with your date.

Planning checklist by season

Summer and early autumn (July to October)

  • Confirm your tenancy end date and book the clean the same day.
  • Ask your letting agent for the cleaning checklist and send it with your request.
  • Book carpets and the oven in the same visit so one team does everything.

Late autumn and winter (November to January)

  • Use the quieter weeks for a deep clean before the festive season.
  • Check drying times for carpets and sofas in cold weather, and keep the heating on.

Spring (February to May)

  • Book pressure washing for patios and driveways before the summer.
  • Refresh carpets and mattresses after the winter.
