What sofa and upholstery cleaning is
Sofa and upholstery cleaning lifts dirt, spills, body oils and odours out of fabric furniture. That includes sofas, armchairs, dining chairs and fabric headboards. Upholstery holds dust, skin cells, pet hair and food crumbs in the same way that carpets do, and it is used every day.
The UK data has 2,322 sofa and upholstery jobs. Sofas are in 75% of them, and armchairs and other upholstery in 11%. Most are booked alongside other cleans: carpets are in 57% of jobs and bathrooms, living areas and kitchens in around 60%.
How much does sofa cleaning cost in the UK?
Sofa cleaning starts from £35 for a 2-seater. Larger sofas, corner sofas and other upholstery are priced on the quote. See the prices page.
| Item | Price from |
|---|---|
| 2-seater sofa | £35 |
| Larger sofas, armchairs and other upholstery | Get a quote |
Across 1,875 sofa and upholstery jobs since 2024 the median booking value was £275. Half of bookings came in between £178 and £386. This is the total for the whole booking, which often bundles several services, so it is higher than the starting price of a single item.
The median is much higher than the price of one sofa because most bookings include other services, especially carpets.
Median booking values come from one UK provider, not the whole UK market.
What is booked alongside sofa cleaning
Each bar shows the share of sofa and upholstery jobs that included the line.
Share of the 2,322 sofa and upholstery jobs in the UK data that included each line. Bundled jobs count under every service they contain.
Sofas appear in 75% of these jobs, with an average of 1.1 sofas, and upholstery and armchairs in 11% with an average of 1.6 items. Carpet deep cleaning appears in 57% of jobs, so the carpet cleaning guide is a useful companion. The scope is on the sofa and upholstery cleaning page.
Sofa and upholstery cleaning across the UK
The table shows the areas with the most sofa and upholstery jobs since 2024. Prices are set nationally, so differences in the median mostly reflect the mix of extras booked in each place, not a different rate.

|---|---|---|
| London | 558 | £277 |
| Edinburgh | 74 | £276 |
| Birmingham | 57 | £280 |

| Oxford | 37 | £230 |
| Cardiff | 37 | £265 |

Jobs by area
Across the 25 UK areas with enough jobs to compare, the median booking value runs from £210 in Guildford to £360 in Leicester. London has the most jobs (558 since 2024). The areas include Scotland and Wales as well as England.
London has 558 of the jobs shown. Outside London, areas have between 19 and 74 jobs, so medians vary more and should be read as indicative. Pricing is national, so the variation mostly reflects what else was booked. Compare more in cleaning prices by city in the UK.
When UK households book sofa cleaning
Sofa cleaning is less tied to moving than carpets are. These are the shares of jobs by month, using the full years 2024 and 2025.
September (12%) and October (10%) are the busiest months, and January (6%) is the quietest. The busiest ISO weeks across 2024 and 2025 were week 36 (early September) with 45 jobs, week 46 (early November) with 43 jobs, week 38 (mid September) with 41 jobs and week 8 (mid February) with 38 jobs (ISO weeks run from week 1 in early January to week 52 or 53 in late December).
Busiest days of the week
Friday is the busiest day (17% of jobs), followed by Monday (15%). Sunday is the quietest (9%). Most jobs start at 9am (44% of jobs), and 2pm is the second most common start (21%). See also busiest months for cleaning in the UK, busiest weeks to book cleaning and best day and time to book a cleaner.
September is the busiest month at 12%, followed by August, October and November at 10% each. Weeks 36 and 46 are two of the busiest. The afternoon is more popular than for other services: 21% of jobs start at 2pm.
Fabrics, labels and what cleaning can do
Check the care label on a sofa before cleaning. Many carry a cleaning code, and the code tells you what type of cleaner is safe for that fabric. Tell the team the fabric and the code when you book, especially for velvet, silk, leather or delicate weaves, because these need different handling.
- Fresh spills respond best, so act quickly and blot, do not rub.
- Old stains may lighten but not disappear.
- Pet hair and odours are usually improved, although some odours need more than one visit.
- Worn or faded fabric stays worn or faded.
How to prepare for sofa cleaning
- Remove cushions, throws and personal items.
- Vacuum the sofa if you can.
- Point out stains and say what caused them.
- Check pockets, seams and under the cushions for small items.
- Leave the sofa to dry fully before using it again, with a window open if you can.
What this means for you
- Budget from £35 for a 2-seater sofa, and get a quote for anything bigger.
- Add the sofa to a carpet or deep clean booking, since most are booked that way.
- September to November is the busy part of the year.
- Friday is the busiest day.

How the numbers were calculated
Source: Hello Cleaners job records, 31,487 UK jobs, part of Hello Services Ltd.
The records cover jobs recorded between 2019 and 2026. This guide uses the 2,322 sofa and upholstery jobs in that dataset. Prices and areas use jobs since 2024. Months use the full years 2024 and 2025. Days of the week and start times use all years. 2022 has almost no records and 2023 is partial, so no trends are compared across those years. 2026 is year to date.
The median is the middle value: half of bookings were below it and half above. It is the total of a whole booking, not a per-service price. The data comes from one UK provider and is not the whole UK market. See also Hello Cleaners in numbers, what customers book most and cleaning prices by city.
