What counts as appliance cleaning
Appliance cleaning means cleaning the white goods and cooking equipment in a kitchen or utility room, inside and out. The common items are washing machines, fridges and freezers, dishwashers, microwaves, extractor fans and cooker hoods. Ovens and hobs have their own oven cleaning guide.
It is the largest line in the UK data: 15,712 jobs include appliance cleaning, more than any other service. The reason is bundling. Landlords and agents expect appliances to be clean at the end of a tenancy, so appliances are added to most big cleans. Of these jobs, 91% also included a kitchen clean and 90% included bathrooms.
How much does appliance cleaning cost in the UK?
Starting prices are fixed and confirmed on the quote:
| Item | Price from |
|---|---|
| Fridge or dishwasher | £15 |
| Extractor fan | £20 |
| Single oven | £25 |
| Double oven or AGA | £45 |
Washing machines and microwaves are not on the standard list, so ask for a quote. See all rates on the prices page.
Across 8,744 appliance cleaning jobs since 2024 the median booking value was £270. Half of bookings came in between £210 and £355. This is the total for the whole booking, which often bundles several services, so it is higher than the starting price of a single item.
Median booking values come from one UK provider, not the whole UK market. Counts overlap because a bundled job is counted under every service it contains.
How each appliance is cleaned
Washing machine
The detergent drawer and its housing, the door seal and the drum. The rubber seal is where mould and trapped lint build up, so it needs the most attention.
Fridge and freezer
Empty the fridge beforehand. Shelves, drawers, seals and the door are wiped, then the outside. Defrost a freezer the day before.
Dishwasher
The filter, door edges and spray arms are the main trouble spots. Grease and food residue sit there and cause odours and cloudy glasses.
Microwave and extractor
Microwaves are cleaned inside and out. Extractor fans and hoods collect sticky grease and take longer than they look.
What is booked alongside appliance cleaning
Each bar shows the share of appliance jobs that included the line.
Share of the 15,712 appliance cleaning jobs in the UK data that included each line. Bundled jobs count under every service they contain.
The appliances line itself appears in 92% of these jobs, with an average of 2.1 items per job. Double ovens (5%) and single ovens (4%) are recorded separately. Kitchens (91%) and bathrooms (90%) are in almost every job. The scope is on the appliances cleaning page. For the bigger services that include appliances, see the end of tenancy cleaning guide and the deep cleaning guide.
Appliance cleaning across the UK
The table shows the areas with the most appliance cleaning jobs since 2024. Prices are set nationally, so differences in the median mostly reflect the mix of extras booked in each place, not a different rate.

Jobs by area
Across the 25 UK areas with enough jobs to compare, the median booking value runs from £245 in Glasgow to £306 in Peterborough. London has the most jobs (2,260 since 2024). The areas include Scotland and Wales as well as England.
London has by far the most jobs, but the medians are close across the UK because pricing is national. Compare more places in cleaning prices by city in the UK.
When UK households book appliance cleaning
Appliance cleaning follows the same calendar as moves and seasonal cleans. These are the shares of jobs by month, using the full years 2024 and 2025.
August (10%) and September (10%) are the busiest months, and December (6%) is the quietest. The busiest ISO weeks across 2024 and 2025 were week 35 (late August) with 179 jobs, week 31 (late July) with 170 jobs, week 26 (late June) with 168 jobs and week 36 (early September) with 167 jobs (ISO weeks run from week 1 in early January to week 52 or 53 in late December).
Busiest days of the week
Friday is the busiest day (18% of jobs), followed by Monday (16%). Sunday is the quietest (8%). Most jobs start at 9am (41% of jobs), and 2pm is the second most common start (18%). Week 35, in late August, is the busiest week, followed by week 31 in late July and week 26 in late June.
Signs an appliance needs cleaning
- A musty smell from the washing machine drum or drawer
- Black or green marks on the door seal
- Cloudy glasses or a greasy film in the dishwasher
- Sticky shelves or lingering odours in the fridge
- Grease dripping from the extractor filter
Left alone, limescale and grease also make appliances work harder.
Keeping appliances clean between visits
- Wipe the washing machine seal after each wash and leave the door open.
- Run an empty hot cycle with a suitable cleaner every month or two.
- Clear the dishwasher filter often.
- Wipe fridge spills straight away.
Professional cleaning makes sense when there is heavy limescale, mould, baked-on grease or a deadline, such as a check-out inspection. In hard water areas of the UK, limescale builds up faster, so expect to clean washing machines and dishwashers more often.
What this means for you
- Fridge or dishwasher cleaning starts from £15, so it is worth adding to another booking.
- If you are moving out, add appliances to the end of tenancy booking.
- August is the busiest month at 10% of jobs, and December the quietest at 6%.
- Friday is the busiest day.

How the numbers were calculated
Source: Hello Cleaners job records, 31,487 UK jobs, part of Hello Services Ltd.
The records cover jobs recorded between 2019 and 2026. This guide uses the 15,712 appliance cleaning jobs in that dataset. Prices and areas use jobs since 2024. Months use the full years 2024 and 2025. Days of the week and start times use all years. 2022 has almost no records and 2023 is partial, so no trends are compared across those years. 2026 is year to date.
The median is the middle value: half of bookings were below it and half above. It is the total of a whole booking, not a per-service price. The data comes from one UK provider and is not the whole UK market. See also Hello Cleaners in numbers, what customers book most and cleaning prices by city.
