What mattress cleaning is
Mattress cleaning removes dust, sweat, skin cells, stains and odours from a mattress. People spend about a third of their lives on one, and a mattress absorbs moisture and body oils every night. Cleaning is not a substitute for replacing a worn mattress, but it can freshen one that is in good condition.
The UK data has 825 mattress cleaning jobs, the second smallest service. Every job includes a mattress, with an average of 1.5 mattresses per job. Most are bundled: bedrooms are in 78% of jobs and bathrooms in 77%.
How much does mattress cleaning cost in the UK?
Mattress cleaning starts from £20, fixed and confirmed on the quote. See the prices page.
Across 768 mattress cleaning jobs since 2024 the median booking value was £298. Half of bookings came in between £214 and £409. This is the total for the whole booking, which often bundles several services, so it is higher than the starting price of a single item.
The median is much higher than a single mattress clean because mattress cleaning is usually booked with a larger service. It is higher than the median for end of tenancy cleaning (£260).
Median booking values come from one UK provider, not the whole UK market.
What is booked alongside mattress cleaning
Each bar shows the share of mattress jobs that included the line.
Share of the 825 mattress cleaning jobs in the UK data that included each line. Bundled jobs count under every service they contain.
Carpets are in 55% of jobs and appliances in 54%, with an average of 3.2 appliances, which points to full-home bookings. Mattress cleaning is often part of an end of tenancy clean or a seasonal reset. See the mattress cleaning page for the scope.
Mattress cleaning across the UK
The table shows the areas with the most mattress cleaning jobs since 2024. Prices are set nationally, so differences in the median mostly reflect the mix of extras booked in each place, not a different rate.

|---|---|---|
| London | 282 | £303 |
| Edinburgh | 30 | £334 |
| Leeds | 20 | £326 |
| Manchester | 19 | £270 |

| Reading | 18 | £348 |
| Birmingham | 16 | £255 |
| Cambridge | 15 | £300 |

Jobs by area
Across the 25 UK areas with enough jobs to compare, the median booking value runs from £198 in Canterbury to £398 in Redhill. London has the most jobs (282 since 2024). The areas include Scotland and Wales as well as England.
With only 825 jobs, most areas outside London have between 8 and 30 jobs, so a single large booking can move the median. London has 282 of the jobs shown. Use these as a rough guide and read cleaning prices by city in the UK for larger samples.
When UK households book mattress cleaning
These are the shares of mattress cleaning jobs by month, using the full years 2024 and 2025.
September (12%) and August (12%) are the busiest months, and December (4%) is the quietest. The busiest ISO weeks across 2024 and 2025 were week 37 (early September) with 20 jobs, week 38 (mid September) with 20 jobs, week 33 (mid August) with 20 jobs and week 6 (early February) with 17 jobs (ISO weeks run from week 1 in early January to week 52 or 53 in late December).
Busiest days of the week
Friday is the busiest day (17% of jobs), followed by Wednesday (17%). Sunday is the quietest (9%). Most jobs start at 9am (45% of jobs), and 2pm is the second most common start (22%). See also busiest months for cleaning in the UK, busiest weeks to book cleaning and best day and time to book a cleaner.
July, August and September together are about a third of all jobs, with each at 11% or 12%. February is a smaller peak at 10%, while December and January are the quietest at 4%. Because the sample is small, week-level figures are limited and should be read with care.
Why clean a mattress
- Hygiene. Mattresses collect dust and skin cells, which can affect people with allergies.
- Odours. Sweat, spills and pets can leave smells that washing the bedding does not remove.
- Stains. Fresh stains lift better than old ones.
- Moving. A clean mattress is a sensible step before moving out or in, and before a child or guest uses a bed.
How to look after a mattress
- Use a mattress protector and wash it regularly.
- Rotate the mattress as the maker advises.
- Air the bed in the morning before making it.
- Treat spills quickly by blotting, not rubbing.
- Let a cleaned mattress dry fully before putting bedding on.
Cleaning will not repair sagging, broken springs or deep damage. If a mattress is old and worn, replacement is a better choice.
What this means for you
- Budget from £20 per mattress, and add it to another booking for the best value.
- Summer and early September are the busy period.
- Friday and Wednesday are the busiest days, each at 17%.
- Tell the team the mattress size and any stains when you book.

How the numbers were calculated
Source: Hello Cleaners job records, 31,487 UK jobs, part of Hello Services Ltd.
The records cover jobs recorded between 2019 and 2026. This guide uses the 825 mattress cleaning jobs in that dataset. Prices and areas use jobs since 2024. Months use the full years 2024 and 2025. Days of the week and start times use all years. 2022 has almost no records and 2023 is partial, so no trends are compared across those years. 2026 is year to date.
The median is the middle value: half of bookings were below it and half above. It is the total of a whole booking, not a per-service price. The data comes from one UK provider and is not the whole UK market. See also Hello Cleaners in numbers, what customers book most and cleaning prices by city.
