What a deep clean is, and how it differs from a standard tidy
A deep clean is a one-off, top-to-bottom clean of a home. It goes further than weekly upkeep: limescale in bathrooms, grease in the kitchen, dust on skirting boards and door frames, marks on doors and switches, and the inside of areas that normal cleaning skips.
In the UK data it is the second largest category, with 10,657 jobs. People book it before or after moving in, before a sale or letting, ahead of a family event, after an illness, or simply to reset a home that has got away from them. Unlike end of tenancy cleaning, it has no inventory or deposit deadline, so timing is more flexible.
How much does a deep clean cost in the UK?
One-off deep cleaning starts from £200, fixed and confirmed on the quote. The price depends mainly on the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, the condition of the property and any extras. See the prices page for current starting prices.
Across 6,132 deep cleaning jobs since 2024 the median booking value was £278. Half of bookings came in between £210 and £375. This is the total for the whole booking, which often bundles several services, so it is higher than the starting price of a single item.
Median booking value by number of bedrooms
| Bedrooms | Jobs | Median booking value |
|---|---|---|
| 1 bed | 975 | £214 |
| 2 bed | 1,713 | £265 |
| 3 bed | 1,341 | £342 |
| 4 bed | 535 | £454 |
| 5 bed | 138 | £584 |
| 6 bed | 25 | £655 |
Median booking values include extras such as carpets, appliances or windows. They come from one UK provider, not the whole UK market.
Deep cleaning bookings are larger than end of tenancy bookings of the same size at every size, which reflects extras and heavier soiling. Two bedroom homes are the most common size, with 1,713 jobs. If you are weighing the two services for a move, compare with end of tenancy cleaning price by bedrooms.
Deep cleaning across the UK
The table shows the areas with the most deep cleaning jobs since 2024. Prices are set nationally, so differences in the median mostly reflect the mix of extras booked in each place, not a different rate.
| Area | Jobs since 2024 | Median booking value |
|---|---|---|
| London | 1,507 | £256 |
| Edinburgh | 152 | £255 |
| Reading | 147 | £291 |
| Birmingham | 145 | £285 |
| Bristol | 135 | £254 |
| Cambridge | 131 | £290 |
| Guildford | 124 | £298 |
| Leicester | 120 | £288 |
| Manchester | 120 | £265 |
| Coventry | 118 | £308 |
| Nottingham | 113 | £285 |
| Redhill | 100 | £272 |
Jobs by area
Across the 25 UK areas with enough jobs to compare, the median booking value runs from £254 in Bristol to £314 in Chelmsford. London has the most jobs (1,507 since 2024). The areas include Scotland and Wales as well as England.
Two bedroom homes by area
| Area | 2 bed jobs | Median booking value |
|---|---|---|
| London | 445 | £268 |
| Reading | 48 | £266 |
| Edinburgh | 46 | £251 |
| Cambridge | 39 | £260 |
| Glasgow | 38 | £270 |
| Birmingham | 37 | £273 |
| Manchester | 35 | £250 |
| Nottingham | 33 | £276 |
Two bedroom medians are fairly close from one city to the next. Where a median is higher, it usually means more extras were booked, such as carpets or appliances. Compare more places in cleaning prices by city in the UK.
What is in a typical UK deep clean
Each bar shows the share of deep cleaning jobs that included the line.
Share of the 10,657 deep cleaning jobs in the UK data that included each line. Bundled jobs count under every service they contain.
Bathrooms (71%), the kitchen (70%), living areas (67%), interior windows (67%) and bedrooms (66%) make up the core. Appliances are added to 41% of jobs, carpet deep cleaning to 36% and exterior windows to 16%. The full scope is on the one-off deep cleaning page. Read the appliance cleaning guide and carpet cleaning guide to see what those two add.
When UK households book a deep clean
Deep cleaning is less tied to the rental calendar than end of tenancy cleaning, so the monthly curve is flatter. These are the shares of jobs by month, using the full years 2024 and 2025.
August (10%) and September (10%) are the busiest months, and January (6%) is the quietest. The busiest ISO weeks across 2024 and 2025 were week 31 (late July) with 115 jobs, week 32 (early August) with 109 jobs, week 51 (mid December) with 109 jobs and week 35 (late August) with 105 jobs (ISO weeks run from week 1 in early January to week 52 or 53 in late December).
Busiest days of the week
Friday is the busiest day (18% of jobs), followed by Thursday (16%). Sunday is the quietest (7%). Most jobs start at 9am (43% of jobs), and 2pm is the second most common start (16%). See also busiest months for cleaning in the UK, busiest weeks to book cleaning and best day and time to book a cleaner.
The pre-Christmas peak is worth noting: week 51 is one of the busiest weeks of the year for deep cleans. Book early in December if you want a clean before guests arrive.
How to choose a deep cleaning company
- Ask for a fixed price. A quote that depends on “how long it takes” is hard to compare.
- Check what is included. Oven, fridge, interior windows and carpets are often extras.
- Confirm insurance and vetting. Cleaners should be vetted and insured.
- Check who supplies products and equipment. Many UK customers prefer the team to bring everything.
- Look for a re-clean policy. Hello Cleaners offers a free re-clean if a problem is reported within 72 hours.
- Read the cancellation terms. Free with 24 hours notice or more, 50% of the total under 24 hours.
Deep cleaning checklist
Use this to decide what you want covered and to check the result.
Kitchen
- Inside and outside of cupboards, drawers and the oven
- Hob, extractor, splashback and sink
- Fridge and freezer, and small appliances
Bathrooms
- Limescale on taps, screens and tiles
- Grout, silicone edges and the toilet base
- Mirrors, extractor covers and floors
Living areas and bedrooms
- Skirting boards, doors, frames and light switches
- Radiators, window sills and interior windows
- Carpets and upholstery if included
- Behind and under furniture that can be moved
Common mistakes
- Expecting a deep clean to remove damage, such as permanent stains or worn grout.
- Not saying which rooms or items matter most. Mention limescale, grease or pet hair when booking.
- Leaving clutter on surfaces, which slows the clean and limits what can be reached.
- Booking a standard clean when the home has not been cleaned thoroughly for a long time.
What this means for you
- Budget from £200, and expect a larger total for bigger homes or when carpets and appliances are added.
- Friday is the busiest day, so midweek and Sunday slots are easier to get.
- August and September are the busiest months, so book a few weeks ahead then, and early in December.
- If you are moving out of a rental, a deep clean is not the same as an end of tenancy clean. Read the end of tenancy cleaning guide first.

How the numbers were calculated
Source: Hello Cleaners job records, 31,487 UK jobs, part of Hello Services Ltd.
The records cover jobs recorded between 2019 and 2026. This guide uses the 10,657 one-off deep cleaning jobs in that dataset. Prices and areas use jobs since 2024. Months use the full years 2024 and 2025. Days of the week and start times use all years. 2022 has almost no records and 2023 is partial, so no trends are compared across those years. 2026 is year to date.
The median is the middle value: half of bookings were below it and half above. It is the total of a whole booking, not a per-service price. The data comes from one UK provider and is not the whole UK market. See also Hello Cleaners in numbers, what customers book most and cleaning prices by city.
